Research Activities

The Laboratory for Radar Systems and Remote Sensing is currently working on the following subjects:

  • Remote characterization of land / sea surface using airborne - spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data.

  • Electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation over the terain: The Sommerfeld Radiation Problem (analytic and numeric solution).

  • Develoment of empirical propagtion models for link budget analysis & radio coverage prediction.

Other Scientific Activities

Important scientific contributions on behalf of the Radar Systems and Remote Sensing Laboratory are briefly summarized in:

  • The Laboratory director, Prof P. Frangos, is the Editor for the International Scientific ‘Journal of Applied Electromagnetism’, JAE, published electronically at the web twice a year (June and December), from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NTUA, Athens, Greece.

  • Prof P. Frangos, is also a member of the Editorial Board for the ‘Electronics and Electrical Engineering’ Journal.

  • In addition Prof. Frangos acts as Chairman or Vice Chairman for the International Conference on 'Communications Electromagnetics and Medical Applications, CEMA, held annualy in Athens, Greece, or Sofia, Bulgaria. He is also a member of the scientific / organizing committee for the International Conference, 'Electronics', held annually (June) at Palanga, Lithuania.

  • Finally, members of the Radar Systems and Remote Sensing Laboratory, have participated in various research projects and international collaboration programs, such as Erasmus and others.

Teaching Activities

The Laboratory for Radar Systems and Remote Sensing prepares and teaches the following undergraduate / postgraduate courses:

  • Introduction to Electrical Circuits, introduced in the 2nd semester of the studies program at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NTUA (undergraduate course).
    ⟶ Course Material
  • Radar Systems and Remote Sensing, taught in the 9th semester of the studies program at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NTUA (undergraduate course).
  • Theory and Application of Electromagnetic fields, offered to postgraduate and Ph.D students at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NTUA (graduate course).

The Laboratory Director, Prof. P. Frangos, has taught as an Instructor to several Universities / Institutions, such as the University of Pennsylvania, USA (teaching assistant), Greek Air Force Academy, Greek Naval Academy etc., besides to his teaching abroad through the Erasmus Programme (Spain, Poland, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Kazakshtan).

Finally, a large number of Diploma and Doctorate theses has been developed by undergraduate and postgraduate students of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and supervised by members of the Laboratory.
